Tutukaka School Camps
Tutukaka Surf Company would like to help make your school camp and electives a success with a TUTUKAKA SURF EXPERIENCE. We aim to work with the students through outdoor education building positive attitudes, which motivate them to learn. The Tutukaka Coast is a perfect coastline for surfing, kayaking, fishing, snorkelling and bush walking.
We aim to create a surfing environment that's infectiously fun and safe by decreasing or eliminating risks through effective planning and management. Our planning and risk management is in accordance to the Ministry of Education's Safety and EOTC Manual, Surfing New Zealand Level 1 Coaching Manual, Red Cross First Aid Manual and the Whangarei Heads Surf Life Saving Manual.
Surfing is arguably one of the most challenging sports to coach. Yet the personal rewards you experience from taking an athlete to the next level in their surfing is nothing short of exhilarating."
Whether your school requires a half day surf experience or you are organising a 1 to 4 day camp, the team at Tutukaka Surf Company acknowledge that everyone has different desires and goals and we aim to work with the students through outdoor education building positive attitudes, which motivate them to learn.
What we provide:
- Surf experience on the Tutukaka coast or Whananaki coast
- Surf instruction with qualified and experienced surf coaches
- Wetsuits and learner surf boards provided
- RAM and safety procedures provided
- EOTC achievement objectives provided
- List of referees available from schools already involved
SAFETY
Our staff are qualified surf instructors. Each instructor holds an internationally recognised Level 1 Surfing New Zealand Surf Coaching Certificate or an equivalent First Aid Certificate, Surf Lifesaving Certificate and a minimum of 5 hours in competition judging. We are avid surfers and are familiar with many surf spots around New Zealand, through competition surfing and free surfing. Our planning and risk management is in accordance to the Ministry of Education's Safety and EOTC Manual, Surfing New Zealand Level 1 Coaching Manual, Red Cross First Aid Manual and the Whangarei Heads Surf Life Saving Manual.
OUR GOALS FOR TEACHING SURFING
Tutukaka Surf Company's goals for teaching surfing through the schools are to:
- Promote appreciation and increase students' awareness for Tangaroa (the ocean) through surfing enabling them to grow confidently at the beach
- Promote appreciation for surfing as a sport and as a pastime
- Promote fitness and health
- Provide students' with an opportunity to enhance their physical, mental and spiritual well-being through a rapidly growing sport, which takes place in a natural environment
A PERFECT SCHOOL CAMP LOCATION
The Tutukaka Coast, The Pacific Ocean Paradise, is situated on the east coast 30 minutes out of the Whangarei town centre. Its coastline full of little sheltered bays -Ngunguru, Tutukaka, Matapouri, Woolly's Bay, Sandy Bay, and is the home to a world-class dive spot - The Poor Knights Island. A perfect coastline for surfing, kayaking, fishing, snorkelling and bush walking.
